For ADF/Police
An acceptable range in the ADF & Police is typically between 18.5-32.9 (29.9 for helicopter pilots)
Your BMI will be measured during your Assessment Day and again on your day of entry into the ADF. You will not be able to join if you are outside the specified range.
I agree that BMI is not the best evaluation tool for overall health but the acceptable range is very lenient to the point that if you are outside that range then you will be a health risk/liability to your team.
If you are above the high limit then you are classed as obese which brings on so many health risks not to mention your physical abilities while carrying that sort of weight during enduring tasks that the tactical athlete is required to do.
If you are below the low limit then your physical capabilities will not be able to meet those same enduring tasks and you will be at a very high risk of injury. Think of a 45kg female trying to carry a 40kg pack for 20+km in a combat role.

I'd like to share an incredible achievement by Sam in hope that it motivates and inspires others by showing that anything is possible if you are willing to put in the work.
Sam first contacted to me explaining that he had a very short time frame (3 months) to lose 30kg so that his Body Mass Index (BMI) score was within the acceptable range to continue his application to join the Australian Defence Force.
He asked me if it was an achievable goal and I was completely honest with him and told him how big of a mission this would be and that it would take a lot of dedication and consistency to achieve it. I also told him that I wouldn't normally recommend someone lose that amount of weight in such a short period but this wasn't an ordinary mission. He had a deadline to be accepted by the ADF for his dream career and said he was willing to do the work.
Every week Sam put in the work and took on everything I had to offer. Every week I was more and more surprised with what he was achieving.
By the end of his program he had achieved exactly what he had set out to do. I'm very proud of how much work he put in and it goes to show that if you really want something and you are willing to put in the work then you WILL achieve it.
This massive feat was all achieved via online training through the 12 Week Battle Ready Challenge.
